Apprendimento linguistico basato su progetti in Medio Oriente e Nord Africa: una revisione sistematica assistita dall'intelligenza artificiale

Abstract

L’apprendimento linguistico basato su progetti (Project-Based Language Learning, PBLL) è indubbiamente molto diffuso a livello globale. Tuttavia, quanto è effettivamente comune questo approccio nel Medio Oriente e Nord Africa (MENA)? Per rispondere a questa domanda è stata condotta una revisione sistematica della ricerca sulle pratiche PBLL nella regione, con l’obiettivo di fare chiarezza sulla situazione in quel contesto. Utilizzando un approccio di analisi qualitativa, supportato dall’intelligenza artificiale generativa (GenAI), questo articolo esamina la ricerca empirica sul PBLL nel MENA dal 1980 al 2024. Sono emersi quattro temi principali: l’implementazione e l’efficacia del PBLL, la forma e la funzione del PBLL, l’integrazione tecnologica nel PBLL e le sfide legate alla sua attuazione. Il PBLL, che ha iniziato a diffondersi gradualmente nei primi anni 2000 nella regione MENA, ha migliorato l’insegnamento e l’apprendimento linguistico, il coinvolgimento degli studenti e il pensiero critico nei vari Paesi della regione, nonostante differenze nel livello delle difficoltà riscontrate. I risultati hanno evidenziato il ruolo della formazione professionale degli insegnanti e della disponibilità di risorse tecnologiche per una implementazione efficace del PBLL. Lo studio si conclude con una serie di raccomandazioni per l’adozione del PBLL nella regione MENA.

Ali Garib, Rice University, Houston, Texas

Ali Garib is an Assistant Teaching Professor and Assistant Director of Digital Technology in the School of Natural Sciences at Rice University. He earned a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics and Technology from Iowa State University, an M.A. in TESOL and Educational Technology from the University of Manchester, and an M.A. in Applied Linguistics from Arizona State University. Ali's primary research interests span the areas of innovative teaching, digital technology in education, experiential and project-based learning, communication education, and faculty professional development.

Gulbahar Beckett, Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa

Gulbahar H. Beckett is a Professor of Applied Linguistics and Technology/TESL at Iowa State University of Science and Technology. Her research focuses on project-based second/foreign language acquisition and socialization; content based second/foreign language; language policies; technology integrated teaching and learning; and academic language and literacy. Dr. Beckett has numerous publications, including her latest co-edited books Global perspectives on project-based language learning, teaching, and assessment: Key approaches, technology tools, and frameworks (Routledge) and A Paradigm shift for language education: Project-based learning and teaching (Routledge). 

Jeanne Beck, Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa

Jeanne Beck  is an Assessment Specialist II for English Language Learning at ETS. She earned her Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics and Technology from Iowa State University. She has taught in South Korea, Japan, and online to teachers worldwide through the US Department of State’s OPEN Program. Her teaching experience spans a wide range of grades - from kindergarteners to graduate students - and a diverse array of courses including academic English, public speaking, technical communication, technology courses, and TESOL teacher professional development courses. Her main interests include language assessments for young learners, language program evaluation, teacher professional development, writing pedagogy, and Instructional Design.

Fatemeh Bordbarjavidi, Shorelight, LLC, Boston, Massachusetts

Fatemeh Bordbarjavidi holds a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics and Technology from Iowa State University and is an ESL lecturer at Shorelight. She earned her M.A. in TESOL from the University of Northern Iowa. She has taught linguistics at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and Indiana State University and has over a decade of experience teaching ESL courses. Her research interests include Corpus Linguistics, Academic Writing, and Grammatical Complexity. She is passionate about Data-Driven Learning, Project-Based Language Learning, and utilizing Computer-Assisted Language Learning to innovate educational practices. She is dedicated to developing materials and approaches that enhance language learning experiences and outcomes.
